Karen’s love for art started when she was in her 20’s.   She eagerly took classes in pastels, acrylics and oils.  Her love for watercolors came quickly after taking courses at the Hoyt Institute in New Castle, Pennsylvania under the artist, Joycelyn Beatty. She perfected her skills and fell in love with the rich colors and textures she could achieve. Upon moving to the Upstate 8 years ago, she found inspiration in pastels with Christine Swann at GCCA. Using her photography for reference, she never misses an opportunity to get out in nature to get reference material.  She loves to travel and has lived in Indiana, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and now South Carolina. 
Karen’s has a passion for wildlife and people.  She is always eager to try new subject matter. Her work has been in many competitions and art shows.  She is active in several art groups locally. Her work can be seen on her Instagram page @karenquillenart.
