Before I left for art school my mother gave me a copy of an ad from a magazine it was headlined “A woman can find herself painting”, and so it began!

A lifetime goal of exploring various mediums from knitting home spun fiber into garments, to stained glass, to crafting and trying out designs and ideas over the years has brought me to a happy retirement stage and painting once again. So now the journey to find that woman gets investigated every day as I paint and create in my home studio. I love color, textures and nature as fodder for paintings and am always experimenting in new ideas.

One of the newest ideas is exploring collages. To me it is creating a jig saw puzzle of your design idea adding as many colors and textures as you can find. Musical instruments ans still life have been the beginnings of these pieces with lots more yet to develop. I am also trying using fabric as background for pieces and drawing plus painting on top to create an image. In the photo I am working on a new painting of a pair of American kestrels. The birds add beautiful bits of color to a grey and white branch background.

My history is I studied at the School of the Worcester Art Museum and Connecticut community colleges obtaining an associate’s degree. I also was lucky enough to study with a National Academy artist who had studied in the old Paris method in early 1900’s. He became a teacher at New York’s Student Union, later painting and teaching in Kent Connecticut. I toiled for several different jobs over the years including retail, sales and design for the Boyds Collection Ltd. plus activities associate in Senior Care before retiring to Upstate SC.
